Based in Budapest
All of my growing experience comes from District XIII in Budapest, but the advice applies broadly to urban environments across Hungary and Central Europe. The climate conditions in Debrecen, Szeged, and Pecs are similar enough that most of my recommendations will work in those cities too.
If you are visiting Budapest and interested in urban greening, I recommend visiting the Fuveszkert (Botanical Garden) in District VIII. It is a wonderful resource for seeing a wide range of plants that grow well in Hungarian conditions, and the staff are knowledgeable and approachable.
